‘Spirit and Light’ concert in Oak Park features music spanning centuries

The Epiphany Music Guild will kick off its 17th season with a free community concert by professional vocal ensemble Seraphour at 4 p.m. Sun., Oct. 29 at Church of the Epiphany, 5450 Churchwood Drive, Oak Park.

A meet-and-greet reception will follow the performance.

The quartet made up of Melissa Birch, Emma Grace Roche, Dana Rouse and Heidi Vass will present a program called “Spirit and Light,” featuring music spanning centuries from the Renaissance to present day.

The a cappella program includes works by British composer John Taverner and contemporary

Korean-American composer Sungji Hong.

Formed in response to the isolation of the pandemic, Seraphour preserves and proliferates the sacred canon, highlighting unaccompanied classical sacred gems that celebrate the beauty of the female voice, states a news release.

Seraphour’s debut album, “Angele Dei,” was released in 2021 and has been featured on classical radio stations and syndicated NPR and PBS programs across the country.

Admission is free; donations to the Epiphany Music Guild will be accepted.
